3D printing of high temperature ceramics

About the Project

Ceramics are light, durable, and affordable, with very high strength, thermal, and electrical properties, which can open opportunities to more sustainable manufacturing, if/when they can be fully made into complex geometries, needed in advanced designs. However, conventional methods of manufacturing ceramics manufacturing, including ceramic paste injection, are limited to simple and relatively small components, and their production need expensive tooling and processes.

This project aims to exploit a recently developed LCD-based 3D printing stereolithography systems to offer a state-of-the-art solution for the commercial manufacturing of large and complex components with ground-breaking applications in many industries. Find out more

Funding Notes

This project is funded in partnership by the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering and the industrial partners of the project. If awarded, the studentship is for 3 years and provides a tax-free stipend of £15,609 per annum for the duration of the studentship plus tuition fees at the UK rate. While we welcome applications from international students, please be advised that it will only be possible to fund the tuition fees at the international rate and no stipend will be available. Successful candidates will be notified end of March 2022.
