Blue Skies, Green Future Webinar: Non-traditional technology for the cements sector – Professor John Provis
The ‘Blue skies, green future’ webinar series presents ideas to spark discussion on the topic of transformation and innovation within the foundation industries. The first webinar was held on Monday 12th April 2021.
Webinars will take place each month and with novel ideas and concepts presented by a world-leading researcher in the field. During the session, speakers will discuss a technology which if implemented could transform the foundation industries. The goal is to encourage the audience to consider ways in which their own industry can utilise and embed innovation.
The first speaker in the series was Professor John Provis, who presented his research on non-traditional technology and innovation for the concrete and cement industry.
Speaker profile
Professor John Provis is the acting Head of Department at Materials Science and Engineering, University of Sheffield. He gained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 2006. He led the Geopolymer and Minerals Processing Group at the University of Melbourne until joining the University of Sheffield in 2012 with a Chair in Cement Materials Science and Engineering.
John’s research centres on the development, characterisation and exploitation of advanced and non-traditional cement and concrete technology. Many projects involve alkali-activated and geopolymer binders, for use in construction, infrastructure and waste immobilisation applications.
