Transforming Foundation Industries Network+ goes international with Portuguese ceramics workshop

On the 13th April 2022, Professor Ian Reaney, director of Transforming Foundation Industries Network+, gave the Keynote lecture for a workshop discussing energy and resource efficiency in the Ceramics sector in Portugal. The event took place face-to-face at the University of Aveiro, Aveiro Portugal and was organised by Professor Paula Vilarinho

Professor Reaney presented his lecture to over 50 invited delegates from industry and academia who work within or with the Portuguese ceramic sector. The event closed with a panel session further discussing the challenges and opportunities facing the ceramics sector.

Portugal has a large ceramics sector mainly based near Aveiro in the North of Portugal but research and innovation are required to support the future of the industry and boost sustainability. It was agreed that Professor Reaney should return later in the year to have further face to face meetings with the ceramic companies.

“This event was a fantastic opportunity for the TFI Network+ to raise awareness of new ideas and the need for innovation in an international setting. It must be a priority for Foundation Industries worldwide to come together to collectively address the need for cleaner, more sustainable working practises. We hope this is the start of future work in this area.”

– Professor Ian Reaney, Transforming Foundation Industries Network+ Director

Transforming Foundation Industries Network+ supports Foundation Industries on the path to Net-Zero, and it is hoped that similar workshops can be presented in further international settings in the near future.
