Transforming Foundation Industries Network+ Funding Call: Next Generation and Intelligent Processes

The TFI Network+ is looking to fund projects that investigate next generation and intelligent processes that may have a significant impact on one or more Foundation Industry. The scope of the call is deliberately broad, but the focus should be on new digital manufacturing technologies that are disruptive and ambitious, and may create a step change in how a foundation industry operates, rather than processes that generate small incremental improvements. Projects should be short term (6 months or a maximum of £56k at 80% FEC) and low TRL.

We are looking to fund projects which:

  • Address new challenges in data-centric engineering
  • Are new methods to acquire data
  • Use artificial intelligence
  • Make use of digital twins
  • Make novel use of existing data
  • Develop new chemical and instrumental methodologies

In recognition that projects with a focus on the social sciences may assist in the uptake, or reduce barriers to the implementation of such novel technologies, we will also be accepting multi-disciplinary projects in the area of:

  • Barriers in uptake/implementation of next generation processes
  • Organisational restructuring
  • Policy needs in the Foundation Industries.

Timeline

  • Call opens 11th Feb 2022
  • Deadline for applications: 16:00, 1st April 2022
  • Funding decision: 6th May 2022
  • Project start date: July 2022
